After this lesson, students will learn the basics of 3 point lighting and why it's so important when taking photos and shooting video!
Lighting helps create a clearer image and helps create a certain mood. Videographers and photographers want the viewer to feel a certain way, and lighting helps with creating that certain mood!
The main function of lighting is to light a subject and your surrounding areas.
In a 3-point lighting set up:
1. Key Light- Spotlight- Main light used on a subject
2. Fill Light- Floodlight- A softer throw of light- Used to help even out shadows created by key light, placed opposite side of key light
3. Back Light- Placed behind the subject, used to light hair and shoulders. Separates subject from background.
If you are filming or shooting photos in a studio set up, you may also encounter set lighting. These are lights that are used to creatively light the background set, wall, tv studio set up, ect...
A light plot is a diagram used which helps plan your lighting set up beforehand.
