Setting Up The Tripod
In this lesson, students learned why a tripod is important to use while taking photos and shooting video. Here are six steps to setting up the tripod properly:
Step 1: Extend the tripod legs
Step 2: Tighten and secure the tripod legs so they are locked in place
Step 3: Open the tripod legs and place on ground
Step 4: Make sure the tripod is level using the "bubble" level feature
Step 5: Adjust the height of tripod
Step 6: Attach the camera to the tripod using the camera plate
We referenced this video on youtube to reinforce the steps...

We also learned about the two most important camera movements we can achieve by using a tripod:
1- "PAN"- Command used to move the camera Left to Right when it is being held on a tripod
2- "TILT"- Command used to move the camera Up and Down when it is being held on a tripod
There are a few good reasons why we use a tripod. One of the most important reason is to make operating a camera easier, create a steady shot with smooth camera movements, and so we can enhance our photo and video composition. Here is a great video that talks about why this particular photographer likes to use a tripod when he takes photos:
